Agribusiness and animal nutrition supplier Alltech released its annual Agri-Food Outlook report, highlighting trends and growth in the global feed market and reporting a 2.9% increase in production from 2024 to 2025.
As part of the 15th annual report, Alltech received data from 38,837 feed mills in late 2025 across 142 countries in order to analyze production and prices. The company estimated that 1.44 billion metric tons (MT) of feed were produced last year, with the top-producing countries being unchanged year-over-year.
The ten highest feed-producing countries produce 65.2% of the world’s feed, with the top three – China, the U.S., and Brazil – accounting for 47.7% of global feed. China produced 330.063 million MT in 2025 and was the fastest-growing feed market with 4.8% year-over-year growth, as farmers moved from on-farm mixing to commercial feed, Alltech shared.
Behind China, the U.S. produced 267.383 million mt of feed, declining -0.8% “due to a historically tight cattle cycle and declining beef herd dynamics,” Alltech stated. Some species – like broilers and dairy – experienced growth, but egg and turkey were still recovering due to disruptions last year.
Brazil rounds out the top three with 89.904 million mt of feed produced in 2025, increasing 2.8% year-over-year. Demand for Latin American protein continued to grow amid lower grain prices and strong exports, with growth in aquaculture, poultry, and pork feed offsetting disruptions in the Andean and Caribbean regions.
Elsewhere, Europe produced 274.061 million MT of feed, growing 1% year-over-year, boosted by good harvest of rapeseed, maize, soybeans, and wheat, with “modest gains in dairy and broilers,” offsetting other areas, Alltech reported. Trade uncertainty and sustainability are expected to influence feed production moving forward.
Rounding out the top ten producers were …
- India, with 57.729 million mt and a 4.5% YoY increase;
- Mexico, with 41.883 million mt and a 1.2%YoY increase;
- Russia, with 38.347 million mt and a 1.1% YoY increase;
- Spain, with 37.507 million mt and a 3.4% YoY decrease;
- Vietnam, with 26.524 million mt and a 2.6% YoY increase;
- Turkey, with 25.480 million mt and a 3.8% YoY increase; and
- Japan, with 24.006 million mt and a -1.3% YoY decrease.
Per species, aquaculture, broiler, layer, and pig feed were the fastest growing feed markets, growing 4.7%,3.7%, 3.2% and 3%, respectively. Broiler, pig, and layer feed were the three largest feed markets, accounting for 400.379 million MT, 380.907 million MT, and 180.126 million MT, respectively.
