Bartronics taps AI to minimise risks in India’s fast-moving fresh produce segment

Bartronics is upgrade warehouses with artificial intelligence tools to improve service reliability, traceability, and compliance standards for fresh produce in India.

The company aims to structurally transform the fresh produce value chain using technology, especially in servicing quick-commerce and modern trade platforms.

“The reason for Bartronics’ decision to capitalise on AI through AYOU is the ability to change the fresh produce value chain through technology. The fruits and vegetables segment is known for its short timelines and low margins, particularly when supplying quick-commerce and modern trade platforms such as Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and BigBasket,” said Vidhyasagar Reddy, managing director of Bartronics India.

With AI built into its post-harvest infrastructure, Bartronics seeks to convert its agricultural footprint into a data-driven rural commerce platform.

The structured data generated through this system is expected to support better planning, reduced supply-demand mismatches, and scalable expansion into additional commodities and markets over time.

“The rollout of AI-enabled warehousing under the AYOU brand will transform this physical reach into a technology-led, efficient, and traceable supply chain. This initiative is about building modern agri-infrastructure that delivers measurable value to farmers while strengthening our position with leading quick commerce and modern trade partners,” said Reddy.

The company signed an agreement with Shree NagaNarasimha, which operates the AYOU brand. This move is part of its expansion strategy under Project AVIO Agritech.

This follows the news in January that Bartronics acquired a 51% stake in AYOU to strengthen its pressure across the fresh produce value chain.

Speaking to AgTechNavigator, Reddy highlighted the challenges that the fresh produce supply chains are inherently exposed.

“The nature of fresh produce supply chains is to manage margins for damaged products, quality variability, and logistics changes…. While our business model is good, there is still room for improvement in terms of logistics inefficiency. “

With the implementation of AI tools, the company hopes to improve the effiency of its overall system.

“Sometimes, additional transportation or redistribution costs are absorbed by the supplier or by AYOU due to changes in demand or quality mismatches. With the implementation of AI visibility, grading, and forecasting systems, we are confident that these frictional costs will decrease significantly,” said Reddy.

AI-enabled warehouses

Bartronics plans to transform select warehouses within its network into AI-enabled smart aggregation and processing hubs operating under AYOU.

These facilities will integrate computer vision-based grading, digital quality benchmarking, predictive inventory analytics, and batch-level traceability systems.

“With the implementation of AI-powered grading, forecasting, and inventory visibility solutions, there is an opportunity to eliminate inefficiencies, align procurement with market demand, and improve reliability. The aim is to create a data-driven platform that improves the execution chain for offtake partners and the transparency and pricing realization process for farmers.”

This will be implemented in a phased manner and based on evaluation, said Reddy.

“Our field teams have already shortlisted some warehouses in our network that are suitable for conversion. The next phase will be an evaluation of infrastructure readiness, throughput, and digital integration feasibility. After that, discussions will be held with the owners of the respective warehouses regarding the structuring of implementation. The conversion will thus be done in a phased manner and not all at once.”
