UK ag-biotech Wild Bioscience and US-based The Traits Company announce a strategic collaboration to fast-track differentiated soybean varieties – validating demand for Wild Bio’s AI-powered trait design platform

Wild Bioscience Ltd (Wild Bio), a University of Oxford spinout applying machine learning and evolutionary biology to crop design, has partnered with The Traits Company, a North Carolina-based trait discovery specialist backed by global seed leader GDM. The collaboration, unveiled at the Plant and Animal Genomes Conference, aims to integrate Wild Bio’s proprietary trait design platform with The Traits Company’s product development pipeline to deliver high-performing soybean varieties at scale.

A design-led approach to soybean innovation

Wild Bio’s platform uses AI to systematically identify and design traits for resilience and efficiency – moving beyond trial-and-error breeding to a predictive, data-driven model. “Advances in soybean genetics represent a high-leverage pathway for improving agriculture,” said Dr. Ross Hendron, Co-Founder and CEO of Wild Bioscience. “Our platform enables a systematic, design-led approach to delivering efficiency gains over time. The Traits Company’s expertise and elite germplasm deployed at scale make them an ideal partner for translating those gains into real-world impact.”

Unlocking differentiation in a competitive market

For The Traits Company, the partnership accelerates its mission to deliver high-performance soybean products tailored to major growing regions. “This collaboration unites complementary strengths in trait innovation and soybean product development,” said Dr. Fayaz Khazi, Founder and CEO of The Traits Company. “Together, we are focused on creating truly differentiated soybean varieties – combining advanced technology with elite genetics to drive scalable, impactful innovation for growers.”

The tie-up validates Wild Bio’s proprietary trait design platform and signals growing demand for solutions that can shorten development timelines and deliver novel traits in a competitive soybean market. With GDM’s global reach and The Traits Company’s deep expertise, the collaboration aims to set the stage for commercial deployment of next-generation soybeans designed for resilience, nutrition, and climate adaptability.
